Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and we are excited for some swoon-worthy moments here in the Drakensberg. In fact, our Bahati Tree Lodge was designed precisely with couples in mind with its warm timber structure wrapping around real living trees and open plan living spaces with magnificent views of the Drakensberg and lake below.

Its enticing double bedroom with Jacuzzi/spa bath and a ‘forest view’ shower is also a space you’ll never want to leave but when you do, you’ll be treated to lazy evenings around the fire-pit or fun-filled days spent swimming in our handcrafted rock pool just a few steps away. No TV means you can destress and really disconnect from the outside world, but a supplied music centre also allows for romantic nights dancing on the deck.

When you’re not at Bahati there are also a variety of romantic things to do within a few minutes of the Treks, Trips, and Trails property. Here are just a few of our favourite things to do as a couple in the Drakensberg:
Toast the day with a sunrise hot air balloon
Is there anything more romantic than drifting over Bahati Tree Lodge in a hot air balloon. Prepare for an early start to your morning as with a sunrise flight over the Drakensberg. Look out over the Bell Park Dam beneath Treks, Trips and Trails and on toward the mountains which stretch out as far as the eye can see. And when you’re done with your magical flight you’ll head back to base for a champagne breakfast – what a way to start the day!
Take a leisurely boat cruise
Just around the corner from the Treks, Trips and Trails property you can rent a stand up paddle board, or a pedal boat and enjoy a few hours with your loved one on the water. Alternatively kick back and relax with a drink or two in hand on a leisurely motorised boat cruise on the dam below our property as you look for the resident birds, watch horses and cows grazing alongside, and of course, drink in even more of the mountains you came to see.

Get your thrills on the cable trail

Put your relationship and your nerves to the test with the brand-new Cable Trail or Via Ferrata (Italian for the way of the iron) in the Drakensberg. Clipped on you’ll traverse the side of a cliff, over bridges and up rocks as you take in more fabulous views of our famous mountains.
Ride off into the sunset
If your day starts off with a sunrise flight, what better way to end it than with a sunset horse ride? Trek through the lush valleys with the Drakensberg mountains providing the ideal backdrop to your ride. In certain spots you may even have the luxury of cantering alongside some antelope or a zebra or two. Book a private horse ride and treat your loved one to a picnic along the way to complete your romantic escapade.
Watch one of the world’s best choirs live
Every Wednesday and Saturday during school terms the Drakensberg Boy’s Choir performs live. Their high-energy performances are truly captivating and promise an unforgettable evening in the Berg. Enjoy a music spectacular, jam-packed with a variety of songs, ranging from traditional classics to well known billboard hits, and authentic indigenous music.
Go stargazing
The romance need not end when the sun goes down as the Drakensberg offers up some of the least polluted skies in the country. Head out with a guide and a telescope as you learn more about the myriad of stars that can be seen on a clear night in the Drakensberg.
