Travel has returned and never more so in the Drakensberg where you can enjoy a whole range of exciting new experiences. Whether you’re a first-time visitor on an adventure to our beautiful mountains, or a seasoned traveller returning to experience the Berg yet again, you’re bound to find something you’ve never done before. Here are some of the new things to see and do in the Drakensberg this season.

Drakensberg Via Ferrata

The Drakensberg Via Ferrata is a self-guided cable trail along a cliff. You’ll be harnessed in and clipped in as you walk the secure climbing path along the front of the cliff, through indigenous forest, with views of the mountains up ahead and the river below. Lines, ladders, bridges, and steps on the side of the rock make for an exciting and challenging adventure for all ages.

Bee tour at Scrumpy Jack’s

Scrumpy Jack’s is a popular farm stall and restaurant of the Drakensberg. Visitors here can now also enjoy a tour with a resident expert to see a glass beehive where you can witness the pollinators going about their business. You can also browse the shop for a range of honey and propolis products which are completely organic, manufactured on the farm, and free from any colourants and preservatives. Also be sure not to leave without trying their famous honey cheesecake!

Berg Air Lifestyle Centre

The new Berg Air Lifestyle Centre offers plenty of fun for the entire family. Here you can taste some local cheeses, include in a chocolate fondue, browse for crafts at the farm stall, pick up some delicious fruits, veggies and free-roam meats for cooking at home, sit down for some scrumptious farm-fresh cuisine, or sip on some unique Drakensberg brew.

LEAP Adventures at Cayley Lodge

The upgraded LEAP adventure centre at Cayley Lodge, just next door to Treks, Trips and Trails, offers a wealth of activities to keep you busy all day. Try your hand at paintball, go quadbiking, have fun in the rope adventure park or head down to the Cayley Beach Club where a wealth of water activities await. Here you can slip, slide and bounce in the floating waterpark, go kayaking, pedal boating, stand-up paddle boarding or enjoy a pleasure cruise on Bell Park Dam.

Also don’t forget to stop in at the newly-renovated Daily@Cayley to pick up a snack and a tasty coffee when you’re done or head upstairs for a delicious wood-fired pizza.
