Father’s Day falls on the 19th of June, so it’s time to celebrate all the dads, granddads, stepdads, foster dads, dads to be, and father figures who have influenced our lives. We believe all your dad really wants is to spend more time with you this year, not to be gifted another pair of socks or replacement aftershave.
These five activities are just a few you can enjoy in the Drakensberg with dad this year:
Go hot air ballooning in the Drakensberg

Perhaps one of the best ways to experience the Drakensberg with dad is to take him on a hot air balloon flight. Drakensberg Ballooning offers scenic hot air balloon flights with panoramic views of the mountains and you’ll land from your flight just next to the dam below the Treks, Trips, and Trails property. From 1000 feet up you’ll enjoy a bird’s-eye-view of the Berg while the sun rises over the mountains. Just magic!
Go golfing in the Drakensberg

For a dad that loves golf there is no better place to visit than the Drakensberg. Around the Treks, Trips and Trails property you can find a myriad of different golf courses with a new one to play every day of the week. The closest course to our property is the 18 hole championship course at Champagne Sports Resort. The course boasts fantastic views of the Drakensberg mountains and a great halfway house where you can enjoy brunch with dad. If you’re an amateur and 18 holes sounds a bit too much, then you could always take a swing at the 9 hole Gooderson Monks Cowl Resort right next door to Champagne Sports. Go for a drive in the Drakensberg

If your dad is a 4×4 fundi then he’ll love adventuring in the Drakensberg. Owner of Treks, Trips and Trails, Chris Hearne is a 4×4 lover and dad himself and will be happy to offer you a personalised guided trip around the area. Go off the beaten path with Chris and hidden mountain passes and ancient historical sites. You could also take to four wheels with a fun filled quad bike adventure through the valleys of the Drakensberg with Four Rivers Adventures. With various trip lengths to choose from you can find one to satisfy your thirst for adventure and your budget.
Go for a ride in the Drakensberg

If you and your dad prefer two wheels after four then bring your mountain bike along and explore one of the many trails that criss cross through the Drakensberg. If you’re not quite that fit then head down to Cathkin Mountain Bike Trails where you can hire an electric bicycle. Alternatively give the guys at Scootours a call and discover the most fun you’ll have on two wheels when you venture down the mountainside on a fat-wheeled scooter with dad.
Go beer tasting in the Drakensberg

About 15 minutes from Treks, Trips and Trails you will find Drakensberg Brewery. This craft brewery in the heart of the Drakensberg makes small batch beer from malted barley, hops, yeast and fresh spring water from the mountain. You can pop in at the brewery to sample some of the pure mountain brew and listen to some local music with your old man.
